Welcome to my class blog. I am currently teaching in the Special Needs field in Victoria, Australia. Because of the confidentiality of students I have not been able to post examples of the amazing achievements. Previously I taught at Rangiora Borough School in New Zealand. To see examples of the great work the Year 3 children did in my 2018 class, follow the blog and check out the tabs below.

The Great Writing Competition! Group A v Group B
Both groups were given the following writing plan.
An iguana lived (choose where).... He played tricks on the other animals. He got caught. He learnt his lesson.
The whole class wrote the beginning paragraph together then children moved off into small groups to write about the tricks the iguana played. The stories are a work in progress still until each group has had a chance to work with the teacher to develop their paragraph so that the story flows and makes sense.
Click the links below to read both stories. Vote by commenting A or B.

Writing - unpacking narratives and planning using S.O.L.O taxonomy.
Our writing groups are learning to use S.O.L.O taxonomy to unpack narratives so that we can write our own great narratives that have
- a setting
- interesting characters
- a complication / problem / plot
- a solution / resolution
Today we read Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers (this is a link to a child reading the picture book https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inG6_DFMaMQ) and completed a S.O.L.O describe map.
We then read another version of Lost and Found that was expanded on for an animated movie. We used a S.O.L.O compare and contrast form to look at the similarities and differences between the 2 books. We decided we preferred the script of the movie version because it had more adjectives and more detail. Click this link to watch the movie Animated Movie Link

We then read Toad by Ruth Brown. This is a delightful picture book that is a descriptive narrative about a Toad that gets eaten by a Monster. But, because he spits poisonous venom, the Monster spits him out. (Story link read on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9xm8H3Viag)
We completed a Describe Map then identified all the adjectives in the story. This is helping us plan our descriptive narratives on a reptile of our choice.
We then used a describe map to plan our own story.
Te Wiki o Te Reo
We were fortunate enough to have a group of children from Te Māhuri who came and shared their knowledge of Te Reo with us then we shared our He Mihi with them.
