Welcome to my class blog. I am currently teaching in the Special Needs field in Victoria, Australia. Because of the confidentiality of students I have not been able to post examples of the amazing achievements. Previously I taught at Rangiora Borough School in New Zealand. To see examples of the great work the Year 3 children did in my 2018 class, follow the blog and check out the tabs below.

Read to Self; Read to Someone; Listen to Reading
We spent some time reviewing how to 'Read to Self' - firstly we need a 'Good Fit Book' then we need to :
Literacy in S4/S5 term 3
Literacy
This Term S4 & S5 have combined children for Literacy and have grouped children depending on their learning needs working on a fortnightly rotation. Children read in S5 and go to S4 for writing for 2 weeks. The following fortnight they read in S4 and go to S5 for writing. This follows the move in education to 'Future Focused Education' in 'Modern Learning Environments'. Click the following link if you are interested in finding out more about this.

Daily Five ReadingWe started our reading by reviewing Daily Five and how to choose "Good Fit Books" - as you can see this book is not a good fit - it is too hard and the reader can't understand what it is about.
"Good Fit" books need to be a suitable level and a topic of interest to the reader.
This book is also not a good fit - it is far too easy!
Welcome back to Term 3.
I hope everyone had fantastic holidays and managed to shake off the bugs and relax. I was a bit disappointed that we didn't actually have snow at home although I'm sure the farmers were pleased. Our family went to Hanmer for a few days and got to throw a few snow balls before it all melted.

Matariki
We had lots of fun learning about Matariki. As part of our learning we watched various legends about Matariki and read the book 'Seven Stars of Matariki' by Toni Rolleston-Cummins. We learnt the
'Matariki Macarena', did some lovely sgraffito art and did some spectacular pastel art showing the skyline of Matariki. We also made He Mihi booklets and practised our greetings in Te Reo.
Science Fun
Because it was the last day of term we decided to have some fun doing science experiments. The children especially loved the leakproof plastic bag experiment!
